Primary School Memories: A Journey of Resilience and Discovery
In primary school, I struggled. Despite being smart, I lacked interest and was often intimidated by my fears. I'd arrive late or barely meet the minimum to avoid punishment, leading to frequent school changes depending on my behaviour.
Fast forward to secondary school, or high school as some will call it, my attendance was sporadic, often finding ways to skip classes unnoticed. At some point, I even dropped out.
Despite my intelligence, I wandered, seeking meaning in the wrong places.
It wasn't until senior secondary school that I found solace in two studious friends, Mariam and Bridget. Inspired by their diligence, we formed the 'Royal Queens', and my truancy lessened. With an expanding circle of supportive friends who would go the extra mile to ensure I succeeded, my interests shifted towards English, History, Literature, Writing, and Home Management, prompting my transition to an Arts student for my final three years.
Contemplating my future, I weighed options between becoming an Educator or a Designer. Faced with the absence of interior design programs in Sierra Leone, I pursued Early Childhood Education. Despite falling ill and falling behind, God intervened when an old secondary school classmate Daphne with whom I shared a desk informed me of a global university offering my dream career: Interior Design.
Enrolling in Interior Architecture, I discovered a newfound passion for learning. Immersed in coursework, I embraced my studies and envisioned myself as a young professional rather than a student. Establishing strong relationships with peers and faculty, I thrived, eventually becoming a Student Ambassador. In my first year, I launched 'Tinap Green', a business venture symbolizing growth and resilience.
Through 'Tinap Green', I've navigated challenges, continuously learning and evolving. My journey reflects the transformation from a timid student to a confident woman, ready to lead and inspire change. And as I look to the future, I see my retirement plan taking shape: owning a Child Care Centre, a testament to my enduring passion for Early Childhood Education
The moral of this story is that God's grace and plans, resilience, self-discovery, and supportive relationships can transform one's life and lead to personal growth and success.
